Homemade Brown Sugar

Our lovely friend Benita pointed us in the direction of Aspiring Homemaker and her recipe for making your own brown sugar! How cool is that?? Ok, so maybe some of you out there knew about this, but to us it seems pretty much like magic. But as we've mentioned before, we are easily impressed! :)

To make homemade brown sugar, simply mix together 1 cup of regular, granulated sugar with 1 1/2 tablespoons of molasses. How simple is that??

To test it out, we made cookies using our brown sugar...and they turned out GREAT (although the picture doesn't do them justice - we were impatient and cut them while they were still too hot)! Even our little test subject said, "these are the bestest cookies EVER!" High praise indeed!

  1. I had no idea it was just reg. sugar and molasses. NO CLUE! I've been going through it like crazy with baking and couldn't locate organic brown sugar in larger sized - you've just saved me a ton of money!!
THANKS! I will be trying this real soon!

  2. We should mention that while it worked great for baking, it had a strong scent of molasses. The smell "baked out" but we're not sure how it would be by itself.

We just thought it was something fun to try, so we are extra-glad to find out that this will help you!
