Maggie and her husband Jeff have a large, blank wall in their house that has been taunting them since they moved in. With both of them having strong creative opinions, it has been hard to agree on what to hang there. That is until they saw this post from Tali at Growing Up Creative. They made it this weekend, put their own spin on it, and are thrilled with the results! Here is how you can do it too:
Start with some cardboard tubes from rolls of paper towels, toilet paper, and wrapping paper. We should mention that it took way more tubes than we thought it would (about 5 paper towel rolls, 6 toilet paper rolls, and 2 wrapping paper rolls), so it's always a good idea to have more on hand than you think you will need.
Next, flatten them out, measure, mark and cut them into equal sections.
Once your pieces are cut out, play around with them! Move them around, step back, then move them around some more until you are happy with the shape and pattern. Glue your pieces together and put paperclips on to hold them in place while the glue dries.
Next, send your husband outside in the ice and snow to spray paint your creation!
The great part of this project is that there is no wrong way to do it, and there is no real way to mess it up. So give it a try and have fun with it!

I think this might even be fun with kids...I'm going to give it a try!!!
ReplyDeleteoh that is sooooo cool! I love this!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! What a cool idea! Is it hard to work with or hang up afterwards?
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys like it! It's really easy to work with and hang - it's just resting on a few small nails!

ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteAwsome idea!
I'm just moving away from home so this will be perfect to make my new place look fun.
How thick did you make your pieces?
(sorry for misspelling, I'm from Sweden)
We made ours a little more than 1/2 an inch thick (which would be a little more than 1.27 cm?), but you can make them as thick as you want! Whatever looks good to you!
ReplyDeleteAnd don't worry about spelling with us - we're terrible spellers! :)
This would make a good Christmas craft for children too :)
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wounderful idea!!!
And not too expensive...! =)

ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea! The school where I teach has an annual fundraiser, for which each class must create a project. I believe this will serve as my inspiration!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool idea! I saw the link on Today's Creative Blog and had to take a look for myself.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely going to do this!

ReplyDeleteI loved the single word....
ReplyDeleteHow did you hang your art up on the wall?
ReplyDeleteI love this! I work at a place that goes through lots of paper towels, and I've often wondered what I could make out of them. Now I know! How did you go about hanging it though?
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome idea! How did you hang this on the wall though?
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing this a couple months ago and meaning to do it! Now I have no excuse. My favorite recycled art work is also when it comes from toilet paper rolls. hehe.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! And your commentary is hilarious...made me smile =D
ReplyDeleteWith art, we are able to express ourselves using various mediums. It does not always have to be expensive. We can use old paper products - the ones that most of us simply throw in the bin already. This teaches us that with our creativity, the strips of paper from shredding Austin documents, tissue tube rolls and other related products can be turned into something beautiful which people can appreciate.
