Story Jar

What can you do with an empty jar and a little imagination? Make a Story Jar! We saw this activity on Education.com (they have such great ideas for kids!) and thought it would be a great way to get our little ones' creativity flowing while encouraging their storytelling skills. The jar contains the beginning of stories that you and your child can make up and tell out loud. It's just fun for the whole family!

What you need:
  • Clean, empty jar
  • Paper
  • Pen or pencil
  • Scissors

Cut your paper into strips large enough for you to write a sentence on.

Next write the first sentence of a possible story. be as creative as you'd like! We used ones that featured our kids' names, as well as more wacky ones like, "Once there was a mad scientist who..." and "Inside my closet there is a magical land..."

Get your kids to help, too!

When you have a bunch done, fold them in half and put them into your jar. You can always add more as you think of them.

You can also create a label for your Story Jar to make it even more special...and get your resident artist to help decorate!

Once it is done, you will have a great tool to help get your kids to tell you stories. Not only is it educational for them, but it's also a great way to snuggle and bond together. We think this would also be great on those long car rides!
