What You Need:
- 1/2 oz Gelatin
- 1 cup water
The original instructions we found said to fill a shot glass with the warm gelatin mixture and then dip one finger in and let it soak for 2 minutes...
But who has the time to dip one finger at a time? Just fill a small container with the mixture and dunk 5 finger tips in at once. Once finished, wash and dry your hands. Using a nice moisturizer is a good idea, too.
Pour any unused gelatin mixture into a resealable container and it will keep in the fridge for about 2 months!
Of course, as gelatin tends to do, it will firm up quickly in the fridge. Just scoop out the desired amount next time you want to pamper your nails and warm it in the microwave for a couple seconds. It will be melted quickly and be ready to use!
And soon you will see healthy, happy nails!
Who knew?
ReplyDeletesounds like a great idea
ReplyDeleteI bite my nails and my 3 yo son is starting to take up the habit. This is a great idea to try!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I'm totally going to try this. My nails are horrible. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWow ~ it really helps ? Your nails look great, I need to try this !!
ReplyDeleteAbout how long does it take to see the results? My nails are horrible, and get treated pretty roughly at work, I'm wondering if that will affect the results.
ReplyDeleteThe instructions don't say how long to keep doing this; once a week? And what's the time frame before results?
ReplyDeletetoo bad there isn't a vegetarian option for this one! lol
ReplyDeleteUsing a protein rich tofu is similar & vegetarian friendly! Add some coconut oil for a nice smell & to aid in healthy cuticles.
DeleteThanks! I'm on it!
DeleteBioten (natural)will help your nails and hair grow also. I used it when my hair fell out after a reaction to a staten drug caused my hair to come out by the hand full. I was so surprised to realize not only was my hair coming back my nails were also growing and not breaking . Hope this helps you.
DeleteI'll try it! I just removed acrylic nails and my nails are HORRIBLE!!! Wish me luck!!
ReplyDeletedefinitely going to try this! how often do you dip your nails? several times a week, or what? thank you!
ReplyDeleteBiotin (1000 mcg 4x a day) works wonders too! this is a vitamin supplement that works for nails, hair and skin.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!!!! I have to clip my nails once a week now that I take this supplement!!!
DeleteYou can buy clear nail polish with nail strengthener in it. I use that when my nails get weak and it helps a lot, plus my nails are shiny :)
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know that you are supposed to drink (or eat) gelatin for healthy nails?

ReplyDeleteMy grandmother used to drink Knox geletine every day. She had lovely nails. I tried this a few years back--did it for a few months, but it never seemed to make much of a difference. I've pretty much given up!
DeletePrenatal vitamins works to and fast in about a month your nails will be thicker and grow faster as well. Its cheap simple and ez to find pretty much anywhere
DeleteMy dad worked construction and had a horrible time with his fingernails splitting the length of the nail, right up to and under the nail bed. He drank Knox but I remember that it didn't seem to help him very much. Maybe he was doing it wrong!
ReplyDeleteGelatin purchased and I am ready to give this a try. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI'd really like to know from those that have done this already:
ReplyDeletehow many times/week did you soak your nails?
how long did it take to see results?
did you cover with clear polish between 'dips'?
Thanks!
I tried the Biotin route, only 5mcg a day and I only remembered most days- my nails began to grow quickly and they look great and are strong too!
ReplyDeleteI take gelatin capsules for my nails, on a suggestion from my pharmasist. It has been working geat. She told me the best way to gain strength was to take those or eat a lot of jello, the pills means less sugar in the diet though.
ReplyDeleteI hope this works but if it don't oh well!! It never hurts to feel like you have been a little pampered anyway. :)
ReplyDeleteOK I will eat and soak, my nails are just sad!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, soak nails in jello, eat jello (not the jello soaked in...ewww) and take Biotin and get Edward Scissor Hands nails.
ReplyDeleteNails grow from the root (Matrix) out. Dipping dead cells into gelatin will do NOTHING. I've been a nail tech since 1995. I promise you, this will not work.
ReplyDeleteYup. It's really about diet, I know that much.
DeleteYou're not strengthening the existing nail but the new nail that's growing. I'd suspect it'd take 6 months to see results but be diligent!
DeleteI've tried this once so far and noticed results right away. I recommend it to anyone :o)
ReplyDeletehmmmm This is so super simple. How often should you do it!? I had gels for a couple weeks after my wedding and they are massively wrecked after taking it all off.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip. I just use some olive oil, dip in your fingertops for 5 minutes and your nails will be superhard for weeks. I used to bite them, but I can't even do that anymore since they won't break :)
ReplyDeleteI also read on pinterest another use for gelatin. Mix it with warm milk and use on your face for a blackhead remover. I need to get some gelatin so I can try both.
ReplyDeleteThis is a myth people. Google it. Good eating habits and possibly biotin supplements. But just putting something on your nails doesn't magically make them grow.
ReplyDeleteIt's for treatment of the nail so it doesn't break. And when it doesn't break, they grow. I tried it and it works. Simple.
DeleteYou're right beauty, it does work! Another way to get the same results is to eat one of the little containers of Jell-O every day. My nails were terrible, but after about 2 weeks I noticed a difference. I get the sugar-free Jell-O. :)
ReplyDeleteThere is absolutely nothing that soaking your nails in gelatin can do to strengthen your nails. Eating it doesn't either. The only thing that can strengthen your nails is a healthy diet and a Jojoba based nail oil. Here's an article I wrote that explains more: http://nailcarehq.com/nail-care-how-to-strengthen-brittle-nails/
ReplyDeleteAna from NailCareHQ.com and SimpleNailArtTips.com
I had a girlfriend who use to drink gelatin and had beautiful nails. I could never stomach doing such a thing. But this I can do!
ReplyDeleteIn the interest of science...why not try for yourself? Why would a persons hair turn from straight to curly during puberty or after having a child? The follicle is a circle for straight strands, oval for wavy curly strands, and almost flat for kinky strands. Body systems and treatments do different things over the course of a lifetime. .
