Homemade Shave Cream

Ok, so we know that in an earlier post we said that our next homemade skin care product would be sunscreen. But with the beastly temperatures we've been having around here lately, we can't keep our "Wookiee legs" under wraps, and we certainly wouldn't want to scare anyone. And as busy moms, we don't always have the luxury of free time to wax. So we were delighted to come across this tutorial from A New Leaf for making Homemade Shave Cream! This is waaay cheaper than commercial shave cream - we used dollar store finds and things we had on hand already!

What You Need:
  • 1 cup shampoo
  • 1 cup conditioner
  • 5 Tbsp. lotion
  • 5 Tbsp. oil (original recipe calls for baby oil, but we used coconut oil. Just use what you have and feel comfortable with!)
  • a container to store your cream in
Before we begin, we should mention that this will NOT turn out like the commercial stuff. It's not thick or foamy and it's definitely not a lather! It it VERY runny, but once you get past what you think shave cream should be like and feel how soft your skin is, we're pretty sure you'll love this stuff!

Ok, time to make some shave cream and it couldn't be simpler! Just mix your four ingredients in your container and shake it up! Yeah, that's it! Just give it a shake before each use and get shaving!

Just a side note: Since oil thickens up when it's cold we stuck ours in the fridge overnight just to see what would happen. It's a bit less runny, but not sure if we want to put something so cold on our legs (although in this heat it's tempting!).

Oh yeah, and men can use it too! A great way to save money for your family! And by blending your own ingredients you can create any scent you want! Happy Shaving!

  2. Glad you guys like it! As for the question about using it "other places", we are not doctor's so we'll just leave that judgement call up to you. There are only 4 ingredients, so if the shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and oil you choose to use are safe for "other places" then your shave cream should be fine there, too.

Again, we will let you make that call...
